›Beautiful music?‹

Aesthetic concepts in auditory culture and practice

›Beautiful Music?‹ | Leuphana University Lüneburg |  BA Kulturwissenschaften | Module: Aesthetics of Music | Rolf Großmann

In the context of cultural studies, we know beauty as a relocatable term that seems to depend entirely on the individual, social and historical location of the viewer. From the middle of the 20th century onwards, the concept of beauty is completely questioned. For Plato, on the other hand, the recognition of beauty is – as he lets Socrates say – already in the soul of the human being. The beautiful, the true, the good exists before all cultural and social influences and wants to be recognized and striven for.

What are our own experiences with beauty, especially with “beautiful music”?
